United Nations Development Group

ORGANIZATION

The United Nations Development Group unites the 32 UN funds, programmes, specialized agencies, departments, and offices that play a role in development.

At the country level, UN Resident Coordinators and UN country teams (UNCTs) implement the UNDG strategic priorities by identifying the national policies, programmes and capacity development gaps and challenges, to which the UN system can best contribute under national ownership and leadership by mobilizing the full range of mandates and expertise of the UN development system.

The United Nations has country teams in 131 countries, covering all of the 165 countries where there are United Nations programmes. The UN country teams encompass all the entities of the UN system that carry out operational activities for development, emergency, recovery and transition in programme countries.

The UNCT ensures inter-agency coordination and decision-making at the country level. The main purpose of the Country Team is for individual agencies to plan and work together, as part of the Resident Coordinator system, to ensure the delivery of tangible results in support of the development agenda of the Government.

The UNCT is led by the UN Resident Coordinator, who is the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General. The Resident Coordinator reports to the UN Secretary-General through the Chair of the UNDG.

GOAL/ AUDIENCE

The UN Development Operations Coordination Office (UN DOCO) is the secretariat of the UNDG providing technical and advisory support to its members. It brings together the UN development system to promote change and innovation to deliver together on sustainable development.

As part of this role we collect data from all 131 UN Country Teams (serving 165 countries) on UN Coordination and Coherence (getting the UN agencies to work together as one).

PROJECT

We would prefer infographic and gif.  An interactive infographic or gif that’s based on the dataset. Any data visualization that you think will attract the attention of users of this data.

Selected visualizations will be:

  • Featured on our annual report

  • Featured on our UNDG website

DATA

Data is collected on 14 areas of UN coordination, entered by colleagues at the country level.  The dataset we want to use for this visualization is related to external partners of the UN Country Teams (that UN convenes) for specific policy activities, the kind of partners, which issues they work on etc.
