PROJECT

Each year, UNICEF’s flagship publication, the State of the World's Children, closely examines a key issue affecting children. We are launching the report next week on Monday (December 11th) and part of this report are extensive data tables on all sorts of topics that UNICEF works on.

UNICEF has learned through experience that problems that go unmeasured often go unsolved. We believe that consistent, credible data about children’s situations are critical to the improvement of their lives – and indispensable to realizing the rights of every child. We are aiming to showcase this data in an accessible and user-friendly format.

We need an in-depth dashboard that

  • shows the indicators from a global perspective
  • shows the indicators for each country.

Selected visualizations will be featured on data.unicef.org and possibly on unicef.org (Any visualization that is used on UNICEF channels will probably have to go through some fine tune adjustments.)

DATA

The data is already flattened and cleaned and in Excel, covering 190 countries. The pertaining Excel sheets are organized by thematic subject area (i.e. education, health, demographics etc.) The indicators differ, in most cases they indicate prevalence in percent, sometimes a total number, sometimes a rate (i.e. female as a % of male).
